Thug motorcyclist repeatedly punches off-duty NYPD sergeant in face, knocks him to ground. Cop — who also suffered broken ankle — had asked suspect to slow down.

A reckless motorcycle rider repeatedly punched an off-duty New York City Police Department sergeant in his face and knocked him to the ground Tuesday, police told the New York Post.

The officer — who also broke his ankle — had asked the rider to slow down, police added to the paper.

What are the details?

The 52-year-old sergeant was walking his dog at East 90th Street and First Avenue around 7 p.m. when he saw the man riding a green motorcycle and asked him to take it easy, the Post said, citing authorities.

The pair began fighting, and the motorcycle rider repeatedly punched the off-duty officer in the face, after which the cop fell to the ground, the paper said, citing police.

Authorities added that the attacker kept up the beating even after the sergeant was on the ground and then rode away on the motorcycle east on East 90th Street, the Post reported.

The injured officer was taken to Weill Cornell Medical Center with a broken left ankle and cuts on his right ear and lip, police sources added to the paper.

The NYPD released photos early Wednesday of the at-large suspect, describing him as between 35 and 45 years old, standing 5-foot-8-inches tall, and weighing 200 pounds, the Post said.

The suspect was last seen wearing a gray hoodie, black pants, helmet, and riding the green motorcycle, the paper added.

How are folks reacting?

Readers of the Post's article were disgusted by the incident:

  • "No one is immune to the lawlessness that NYC has devolved into," one commenter wrote.
  • "How fast will [District Attorney Alvin] Bragg cut him loose once caught, and how much bail, if any, will be required? [Answer:] ... As fast as he can and as little as he can possibly get away with," another commenter said.
  • "Anybody who wants a career as a cop seriously needs to reconsider," another commenter declared. "The civil society of America is being wrecked by the criminal mob called the Democrat Party, and cops are no longer welcome in America."
  • 'Welcome to third world quality of life New York!" another commenter announced.
