Congresswoman received threatening email after shooting: 'Your lives are forfeit

Congressperson Claudia Tenney (R-NY) received an email titled “One down, 216 to go…” after the shooting of House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La). The email went on to say “Did you NOT expect this?”

Tenney called into “Pure Opelka” today and told Mike Opelka that this sort of communication to her office is now typical. Emails, phone messages, and social media responses are increasingly “borderline violent.”

She said she voted for the American Health Care Act on behalf of middle class Americans who want relief from the high cost of health coverage, but she’s been accused of “tak[ing] away ordinary peoples very lives in order to pay off the wealthiest among us,” as the email stated.

It concluded, “Your own lives are forfeit. Certainly, your souls and morality were lost long before. Good riddance.”

Tenney lamented that we as a nation have gone to another realm beyond free speech and robust debate. Her son is a United States Naval Academy graduate and a Marine. She was told in response to a Memorial Day message “I hope your son comes home in a bag” from someone who identifies with the Resistance movement.

“As horrible as it is, it’s not atypical,” she reiterated.
