This group plans to protest Texas police department cooperating with ICE

The Carrollton, Texas, police department will endure a protest on Sept. 1st. Domingo Garcia, president of League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), told WFAA Dallas that they will be protesting President Donald Trump’s visit to Dallas on Sept. 27th also.

The picket protest of police will coincide with the effective date of Texas Senate bill 4, which allows police to check the immigration status of those they already have in custody. Another protest is also planned for Austin.

Carrollton is being targeted because they have partnered with Immigration and Customs Enforcement under 287(g). This voluntary section of the United States Immigration and Naturalization Act allows the director of ICE:

“…to enter into agreements with state and local law enforcement agencies, permitting designated officers to perform immigration law enforcement functions, provided that the local law enforcement officers receive appropriate training and function under the supervision of ICE officers.”

Chris Salcedo located a translation of a Spanish-language site objecting to Carrollton P.D.’s cooperation with ICE. His response on today’s “Chris Salcedo Show” was that “only we Americans have a say on how we are going to govern our country.”

He also asked why every local police department isn’t participating in 287(g) with ICE, barring funding and resource issues.
