Austria bans the full-face burqa and mandates German language and culture classes for immigrants
May 18, 2017
In the name of integration, the Austrian parliament has passed a law banning burqas, a full-face veil often worn by some Muslim women. If caught in public wearing a burqa, she could receive a 150 euro fine, or $167.
On top of that, immigrants will be required to take a one year integration course. They will also take German language lessons and study the values and ethics in Austria.
Additionally, parliament wants these migrants to take unpaid work to help prepare them for the labor market in their country.
