In a low road tactic cut straight out of the liberal playbook, several conservative sites dug up old tweets by 'Guardians of the Galaxy' director James Gunn in which he made jokes about pedophilia and rape. Walt Disney Studios subsequently fired Gunn -- a move widely celebrated as a 'win' for the Right.
The smear was in retaliation for the filmmaker's part in shaming Ben Shapiro after director Mark Duplass' tweet which suggested that “fellow liberals” might "consider following @benshapiro for an honest look at the conservative viewpoint. Catch up on the backstory here.
On Saturday, Glenn Beck tweeted his support for Gunn, pointing out that the right to free speech must apply even to speech we don't agree with -- and that goes for both sides.
Predictably, the mob then turned on Glenn.
@jamesGunn I will stand for you.We all make mistakes, we must come together as each of us grow and change.Forgive others in hope that they will forgive themselves and others too. Reach beyond your comfort zone and be kind. You don’t need my forgiveness J.G, but I offer friendship https://t.co/qaD6snFPhM

We all have more to lose than money, fame or position. I stand against mobacracy. It isn’t a ‘strange hill’.Twitter is not the voice of the people on either side. It is mob rule.i refuse to become that which I despise. Why now ¬ 5yrs ago?Politics on both sides. #madnesshttps://t.co/oRbmTSzKOA

If @MarkDuplass is the man I think he is, a good guy who wants to unite people, I feel for him tonight. Last week, he tried to open minds by suggesting people follow Ben Shapiro, the Mob came for his head to frighten Mark into silence.. cont 1
