Watch: College students condemned this classic ‘SNL’ sketch as ‘racist’
November 14, 2017
Students were recently horrified and traumatized by an old “Saturday Night Live” sketch featuring the physical comedy of Steve Martin in a stylized version of Egypt.
A satire on how Egyptian culture has been commercialized, “King Tut” was a hit single at the time, selling more than a million copies after it was released in 1978. But modern college students at a small liberal-arts college in Portland were far too enlightened to appreciate Martin’s comedy, condemning the musical sketch as “racist” and comparing it to blackface or the n-word.
Jeffy had the story while standing in for Doc on today’s show.
