Anthony Weiner is a predator, not a joke

Conservative Review

Anthony Weiner isn’t going to jail for just “sexting.”

The disgraced former congressman was sentenced Monday to 21 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to transferring obscene materials to a 15-year-old minor.

Most of the mainstream media is covering the story like this: “Former Rep. Anthony Weiner was sentenced Monday to 21 months in federal prison for sexting with a minor.” That’s the opening line from CNN. “Sexting” is also in the headline at the New York Times, the New York Daily News, USA Today, the Chicago Tribune, and elsewhere.

But “sexting” doesn’t begin to communicate the gravity of Weiner’s crime.

Weiner, 53, was sentenced to 21 months in jail for convincing a 15-year-old girl to sexually perform for him over the internet in 2016.

“With full knowledge that he was communicating with a real 15-year-old girl, the defendant asked her to engage in sexually explicit conduct via Skype and Snapchat, where her body was on display, and where she was asked to sexually perform for him,” prosecutors argued.

Weiner groomed this underage girl, sending her pornography and using the alias “T-Dog.” In three video chat sessions, Weiner “used graphic and obscene language to ask the minor victim to display her naked body and touch herself, which she did.”

He’s not going to prison for “sexting.” He’s going to prison for sexually preying on a minor. And he will spend the rest of his life as a registered sex offender.
