'Love, not terror’ video preaches tolerance throughout Mideast

An Arabic media company has produced video imploring Muslims worldwide to mark the beginning of Ramadan with peace — pleading with potential jihadis that terror is not the way forward. The video by Zain Group, a telecom company based in Kuwait, is already approaching 3 million views in under 4 days.

The production starts showing a man making preparations to become a suicide bomber. Throughout the clip, he comes face to face with victims of terror (including some real-life victims), who reject his call for violence in the name of God.

The man boards a bus wearing a vest strapped with explosives. He is immediately confronted by the victims of his future terror. His potential victims include an actor playing 5-year-old Omran Daqneesh, who was famously injured when the Assad regime bombed his Aleppo home in Syria.

“I bear witness that there is no God but Allah,” the would-be suicide bomber tells his future victims, seemingly committing to the act in the name of Islam.

An older man stands up to reject his call for religious violence, and responds: “You who comes in the name of death, He is the creator of life.”

“The forgiving and forbearing who hurts not those who hurt him,” the actor playing Daqneesh tells the bomber.

The bomber then walks through the streets chanting “Allahu Akhbar,” or “God is Greater.” But the victims of terror approach him to reject his call for religiously inspired violence, reiterating the theme that “God is Greater” than calling for people to kill others in his name.

Other tones stressed in the lyrics of the video include “Worship your God with love, with love not terror” and “Confront your enemy with peace, not war.”

”We will encounter their hatred with songs of love," a message at the end of the clip says, “From now until happiness.”

During the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, groups like Al Qaeda and ISIS often call for Muslims to commit acts of terror in the name of Islam. Zain is preaching the opposite message: That Ramadan should be a time for peace and tolerance, not terror.
