NY Attorney General launches political witch-hunt against Exxon Mobil

Have you ever declined to promote the Democrat agenda while engaging in commerce? You might be under criminal investigation.

There’s a lot of talk in Washington these days about over-criminalization and the need for criminal justice “reform.” However, while Congress pursues an agenda of emptying the prisons of violent criminals, they are overlooking the true threat of over-criminalization – political witch hunts on the part of liberal government officials against companies and individuals who don’t obey their religion of global warming.

The New York Times is reporting that New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman has issued a subpoena to Exxon Mobil for not properly warning their investors about the risk of “climate change.”

According to people with knowledge of the investigation, Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman issued a subpoena Wednesday evening to Exxon Mobil, demanding extensive financial records, emails and other documents.

The focus includes the company’s activities dating to the late 1970s, including a period of at least a decade when Exxon Mobil funded groups that sought to undermine climate science. A major focus of the investigation is whether the company adequately warned investors about potential financial risks stemming from society’s need to limit fossil-fuel use.

Is this really America? What’s next?  Are Democrat politicians going to subpoena all companies for not providing enough information and warning about issues the Left feels are important to society?

The irony here is that the alleged abuses began in the 1970s when the de jureissue of the time was global cooling.  Taking their “climate science” to its logical conclusion, the production of fossil fuels would have served as a much-needed antidote to the environmental issue of the day.

The Times goes on to report that other oil companies are under investigation for financial fraud for allegations of not properly warning investors about the dangers of climate change.  They are now criminalizing inactivity that violates tenants of the Democrat Party platform.  In the ever-evolving world of liberal “science,” will they criminalize religious institutions for not properly warning their patrons about the dangers of their views towards transgendered individuals?

Not surprisingly, the New York Attorney General’s investigation coincides with Hillary Clinton demanding…you guessed it…a federal investigation into Exxon Mobil for pulling out of the “Clinton Global Initiative.”  We now have the most notorious criminal in this country – a woman who endangered our national security by willingly breaching security protocols – possibly colluding with an elected Attorney General to criminalize the inactivity of a company declining to support their political agenda.  This is literally totalitarianism in every sense of the word.

Oh, and watch out consumers, in case your energy bills skyrocket in the coming years, you will know who to blame:

“This could open up years of litigation and settlements in the same way that tobacco litigation did, also spearheaded by attorneys general,” said Brandon L. Garrett, a professor at the University of Virginia law school. “In some ways, the theory is similar — that the public was misled about something dangerous to health. Whether the same smoking guns will emerge, we don’t know yet.”

The tragic irony is that this is occurring amidst a rash of violent crimes in major metropolitan areas, including New York City.  When will Schneiderman investigate why Tyrone Howard, a career criminal, was allowed back onto the streets of New York to murder a cop?

Our criminal justice system has been turned on its head.  The leftists use the boot of government to compel private enterprise to genuflect before their social engineering, thereby violating freedom of speech, enterprise, and private property rights.  At the same time they prevent law enforcement from clamping down on violent crime.

These are the types of over-criminalization cases House and Senate Republicans on the Judiciary Committee should be investigating, not the codification of Obama’s agenda to release violent criminals from prison.
