President Trump cancels Nancy Pelosi’s ‘seven-day excursion’

President Trump has delivered a letter to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, informing her that her planned foreign travels have been postponed.

In a letter tweeted out Thursday afternoon by White House press secretary Sarah Sanders, President Trump told Pelosi: “I am sorry to inform you that your trip to Brussels, Egypt, and Afghanistan has been postponed.”

The president added that the White House will “reschedule this seven-day excursion when the Shutdown is over.”

In his remaining remarks, the president urged Pelosi to join him in negotiating an agreement for border security measures that would result in the reopening of the federal government. 

“I look forward to seeing you soon and even more forward to watching our open and dangerous Southern Border finally receive the attention, funding, and security it so desperately deserves!” President Trump concluded.

The president’s letter comes just one day after Speaker Pelosi moved to cancel the president’s upcoming State of the Union address, which is scheduled for January 29.

Pelosi cited “security concerns” and low staffing due to the government shutdown as one of the reasons why the president could not deliver the address as scheduled. However, Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen later rejected Speaker Pelosi’s reasons, adding that U.S. personnel “are fully prepared to support and secure the State of the Union on its scheduled date.
