In New Jersey, two Republican candidates are battling to for the Republican nomination to unseat Rep. Josh Gottheimer, D-N.J., in November.
Steve Lonegan, the former mayor of Bogota, is running with LevinTV host Mark Levin's endorsement for Congress. Lonegan previously ran unsuccessfully for governor in 2009, Senate in 2013, and Congress in 2014. However, when he ran for Senate against Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., he won the 5th Congressional District, suggesting he may do well in November this time. Lonegan has also been endorsed by Sens. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, and Rand Paul, R-Ky.
His primary opponent is attorney John McCann, who is supported by former Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer, R, and former Trump administration official Sebastian Gorka. He considers himself a moderate.
New Jersey uses a closed primary system, meaning that voters must be registered with a party to vote in that party's primary. However, unaffiliated voters may declare their party affiliation up to and including the day of the primary election. The polls close at 8:00 p.m. ET.
