Democratic senator and 2020 presidential hopeful Kirstin Gillibrand (N.Y.) was on the campaign trail in Iowa on Monday, covered by CNN political reporter D.J. Judd.
Speaking at the Airline bar in Iowa City, Gillibrand was approached by a female patron edging through the crowd. As the woman reached Gillibrand, the senator extended an arm out to greet the (assumed) supporter on the shoulder as she continued talking to onlookers while sitting on the back of a booth.
When their eyes met, the woman maneuvered around Gillibrand saying, "Sorry, I'm just going to get some ranch," to which the candidate replied, "Go ahead."
The room erupted in laughter, but Gillibrand stepped right back into her discussion on the "bold ideas" the Democratic party's base and grassroots supporters care about.
