Horrific Vid: 17-Year-Old Mother Caught Trying to Smother Baby

Before you watch this video, know that the the young mother in it -- 18-year-old Shantaniqua Scott -- was found guilty of two counts of injury to a child with serious bodily injury. Knowing that makes it bearable to watch as Scott tries multiple times to smother her 4-month-old son as he lies helpless in a hospital crib.

NBC DFW explains what happened:

The video shows Scott placing a blanket over the baby’s face for more than 20 seconds. A nurse briefly enters the room. Scott paces the floor and appears to check her cell phone.

The courtroom watched in absolute silence during what happened next.

The camera captured Scott covering her baby's face with her bare hand. At first, the baby kicks and fights back.

By the time she removes her hand one minute and 14 seconds later, the baby appears limp.

Seconds later, with alarms indicating the baby had stopped breathing going off, doctors and nurses rush in to resuscitate him.

The young boy survived due to the fast actions of the hospital staff. He is now in foster care.

During Scott's trial, it took the jury just 20 minutes to deliberate and find her guilty. She's now awaiting her sentencing, which includes the possibility of life in prison.
