"despite the shock and possible injuries"
A police officer in Surrey, England, arrested a man who had struck him at high speed with a stolen car only moments before.
Sky News reported on the incident Tuesday, in which police officer Dan Pascoe set up a road block, and was then struck by the stolen vehicle he meant to capture.
Despite being flung into the air as the stolen car careened off his vehicle, Officer Pascoe set off on a foot race with the suspect and tasered him before collapsing. Assisting officers on the scene then arrested the suspect.
Inspector Chris Colley, Pascoe's boss, gave tremendous credit to his officers, saying that:
'the officers, particularly PC Pascoe, had to react extremely quickly and despite the shock and possible injuries they may have sustained during the collision they were determined not to let the suspect get away.'
The suspect pleaded guilty to charges of dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene of an accident, driving while disqualified, driving without insurance and resisting arrest and received a 23 month sentence.
