President Obama Speaks About Gadhafi’s Death

WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Barack Obama will speak from the White House Rose Garden on Thursday afternoon about the killing of Moammar Gadhafi.

Obama's remarks are scheduled for 2 p.m. EDT. U.S. officials have yet to say anything publicly about Gadhafi's death, though one U.S. official said Libya's government informed the United States earlier in the day.

Gadhafi was killed in his hometown of Sirte.

His death comes seven months after the U.S. and NATO launched a bombing campaign in Libya to protect civilians from attacks by forces loyal to the longtime leader. While the U.S. initially took the lead in the campaign, it eventually played a secondary role to other NATO allies.
