"That's what our President thinks is wrong with America? ... That's pathetic."
President Barack Obama's recent chiding of the United States, saying the country has been "a little bit lazy over the last couple decades", has ruffled feathers and is now the focus of Texas Gov. Rick Perry's new presidential ad that calls this statement "pathetic" and blames "socialist policies" as "bankrupting America."
Watch the ad:
The Huffington Post reports this isn't the first time Perry has accused the current administration of socialism:
In 2009, he said that "this is an administration hell-bent toward taking American towards a socialist country."In a September interview with Time, Perry stood by that remark, saying, "I still believe they are socialist. Their policies prove that almost daily. Look, when all the answers emanate from Washington D.C., one size fits all, whether it's education policy or whether it's healthcare policy, that is, on its face, socialism."
In the ad, Perry also calls for balancing the budget and cutting Congress' pay should they "balk" at the idea. In a statement released by Perry, he calls the $15 trillion of federal debt announced today "depressing" and states a need to "uproot and overhaul Washington", which would include a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution and a "part-time Congress."
