Mystery Solved? White House Says Bo the Dog Was Never in Hawaii

"It is now clear my wife saw another black dog walking our neighborhood."

President Obama Goes Shopping with Dog Bo

Questions swirled last week over President Barack Obama's trip to PetSmart with family dog Bo, at the same time the presidential pooch was said to be vacationing in Hawaii with the rest of the first family.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser quoted a Hawaii resident who said his wife had seen the famed Portuguese Water Dog out walking before Bo made an appearance with the president back in Washington for a toy run.

Keith Koffler at the White House Dossier questioned whether Bo was flown back to participate in a "silly photo op," postulating that either the Hawaii report was mistaken or that Bo might truly have hitched a ride back to D.C.

It now appears that the former was correct: A White House spokesman told the Star-Advertiser that Bo did not in fact travel to Hawaii with first lady Michelle Obama and daughters Malia and Sasha.

Additionally, Scott Miscovich, the resident who sparked all the speculation, released a statement taking back his original quote:

"It is now clear my wife saw another black dog walking our neighborhood. We would like to apologize to Bo and the Obama family for any inconvenience this may have caused them. We would also like to wish them a peaceful and Merry Christmas."

A report about Bo accompanying the first family to Hawaii also appeared in the Chicago Sun-Times, which has since corrected it story.
