Dem. Campaign Worker Accused of Stabbing Neighbor to Death Over Dog Poop Incident

“That's a terrible way for somebody to die..."

A volunteer campaign worker for Democratic D.C. council candidate Kevin Chavous will appear in court Monday, the day after police say he stabbed a neighbor to death over dog feces. WJLA-TV reports that Ellsworth Colbert has been charged with second degree murder for fatally stabbing next-door-neighbor Robert Wright Sunday morning after Wright's dog allegedly defecated on Colbert's yard.

“That's a terrible way for somebody to die get stabbed over dog poop,”Kevin Chavous, D.C. Council candidate for Ward 7 that Colbert had been supporting, told WJLA. “Just about everybody around here has a dog."

The Washington Free Beacon reports court records show Colbert has been in trouble with the law before, having been arrested at least seven times in the past for charges including assault.

“In Ward 7 we've lost a lot of young men to violence like this and it can't be tolerated. And it's unfortunate and both families are in my thoughts and prayers at this time," Chavous said, who indicated that while Colbert volunteers for Chavous, he is not involved in campaign leadership.
