The Romney campaign is out with a new campaign spot hitting President Barack Obama for abandoning his "hope and change" campaign mantra in favor of a barrage of negative ads against Mitt Romney.
Released Sunday amid a fresh wave of controversy over Romney's time at Bain Capital, the 30-second ad is composed entirely of clips of journalists criticizing the tone of Obama's campaign. It ends with CBS News' Bob Schieffer asking, "Whatever happened to hope and change?"
According to Politico, Schieffer was "shocked" to find himself in the Romney ad.
"That was a question that I posed to David Axelrod -- not a statement," he explained. "I have no affiliation with the Romney campaign. This was done without our permission."
Noting the "precarious" position of an "independent" journalist, Politico continues, Schieffer attempted to distance himself from the commercial.
"I'm sure I'll get some blowback," he concluded.
