Texas A&M Heisman Trophy Winner Johnny Manziel Isn't Even Taking Classes on Campus

"I went one day -- it was a small class of 20 or 25 -- and it kind of turned into more of a big deal than I thought."

Johnny Manziel may have become the "big man on campus" at Texas A&M after becoming the first freshman ever to win the Heisman Trophy but, according to Yahoo Sports, it turns out he's hardly ever there.

"Johnny Football" said Monday that he has opted out of traditional classes, instead choosing to take all-online courses this semester.

CBS Sports relates:

While Manziel remains a full-time student, per NCAA rules, he said Monday that he won't be setting foot inside a classroom this spring because all four of his classes are online only. Aside from workouts at the football complex, he only expects to be on A&M's campus about once a month.

“It just happened to work out where it was good after the football season with all of the stuff going on," Manziel told reporters at the Fort Worth Club, where he was scheduled to receive the Davey O'Brien Award as the nation's best quarterback on Monday night.

He added he was forced to switch out of an on-campus English course earlier in the semester because his presence was too much of a distraction. "I went one day -- it was a small class of 20 or 25 -- and it kind of turned into more of a big deal than I thought."

Shying away from making it all about his celebrity, Manziel stated: "It just happened to work out to where it was good after the football season, with all that was going on.”

Manziel recently got back from the Super Bowl, where he had a chance to meet a number of celebrities and even the crew from Duck Dynasty.  But the glare of the spotlight combined with his prompt decision to take all-online courses is certainly making some wonder how the rest of Manziel's college years will play out.

But Manziel says he's focused on one thing only: "A national championship."
