The Disgusting Reason This Elevator Stopped Working

"That's really nasty"

An elevator at a Long Island Rail Road station has been rendered nearly inoperable due to one very disgusting reason. Officials say it's because people have urinated on it so much.

The elevator in question is at the Woodside Station in Queens and has only been in operation 58 percent of the time, CBS New York reports.

Metropolitan Transportation Authority officials said all the urine has actually rusted the floor and seeped into the inner workings of the lift, causing operational issues.

LIRR President Helena Williams said the elevator has a “vertical urinal problem.”

Meanwhile, officials are debating whether they should repair or replace the urine-soaked elevator. Patrons would likely prefer the latter for a number of reasons.

"I just knew the acrid urine smell all the time and we just came to get used to it and make sure my daughter didn’t touch anything on the elevators," one man told CBS New York.

Another woman called the elevator situation "really nasty" and was surprised to hear about such a problem in the area.

Would you still ride this elevator?
