When lawmakers arrive on Capitol Hill next month to debate Sen. Harry Reid's (D-Nev.) gun control bill, they better plan to be there for a while.
Appearing on Fox News' "Hannity" Thursday night, Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) promised Americans he would filibuster the bill because it violates the U.S. Constitution and will not reduce gun violence.
Reacting to President Barack Obama's comments about the tragic Sandy Hook shooting and gun control, Paul said he was "saddened" and "disappointed" that this administration continues to exploit the victims of the horrific event.
"The shooting was just a horrible tragedy. I have three kids and my heart goes to those families… That being said, I think it's a mistake for either side to politicize this," Paul said. "The president uses them as a backdrop and drama for getting some kind of political will."
"But my question to the president is: Call me if any of your reforms would've saved those kids at Sandy Hook."
When fill-in host Eric Bolling asked him directly whether he would filibuster the bill, Paul said: “We plan on making them have at least 60 votes to pass any legislation that may abridge the Second Amendment. So we will fight tooth and nail, and use every parliamentary procedure to stop that from happening.”
Unsatisfied with the vague answer, Bolling pressed and asked the Kentucky senator again if he planned on filibustering the bill.
"We will filibuster the bill," Paul replied.
He went on: "We won’t let them bring it forward because our fear is that once it comes forward, they’ll come forward with something that sounds benign in the beginning but we already have the Feinstein Amendment that talks about banning certain types of guns. That is inconsistent with the Second Amendment."
Paul pointed out that nearly 90 percent of gun crimes are committed with guns that are bought illegally.

Paul united Americans across the political spectrum last month when he filibustered the nomination of CIA Director John Brennan to bring attention to the federal government's controversial drone program. The stunt ultimately forced the Obama administration to admit it couldn't assassinate American citizens on U.S. soil.
