Two 12-year-old girls in Paterson, N.J. have been suspended and face possible criminal charges after a video of them listing several classmates and school administrators they would like to murder surfaced online this week.
In the video, the girls -- one in front of the camera and one behind it -- laugh as they talk about the classmates and school administrators they would kill and how they would do it in some instances.
"Wouldn't you guys think I'd be the best assassin ever," one of the girl says in the "murder video." She later clarified, saying "stab him continuously in this area."
Watch CBS New York's report, which includes parts of the disturbing video:
Even though the two girls giggle throughout the video, parents of the students named in the video are not laughing. CBS New York reports that those parents are taking the threats seriously.
“My daughter, she woke up about four times last night, to lock the doors. She woke up with nightmares,” said parent Angelica Marrero, whose seventh-grade daughter was on the kill list.
"My daughter had called me crying hysterically around 11:30, telling me 'mommy, this girl just told me that she’s gonna kill me,'" another mother said.
Paterson Mayor Jeffrey Jones told reporters that he had no reason to believe that there ever was a serious threat.
“I’ve not been given any specific details, but all indications are no,” he said.
The two girls will remain suspended as police investigate the incident.
The video in question has since been removed from YouTube. Meanwhile, parents were reportedly told that the two girls pictured in the video are receiving a medical evaluation, though police did not confirm that.
