Al Gore wants Rupert Murdoch to board the climate change train

A New York magazine profile on Al Gore reveals one of the former Democratic presidential candidate's aspirations: Meet with News Corp. CEO Rupert Murdoch and sell him on climate change.

Murdoch is generally believed to be more on the conservative side of politics, though he has in the not-too-distant past demonstrated a belief that green technology is preferable to fossil fuels. At the start of the year, however, he sent out a skeptic tweet about rising carbon levels damaging the planet. "World growing greener with increased carbon,” the tweet said. “Thirty years of satellite evidence. Forests growing faster and thicker."

From the New York piece, by Steve Fishman:

[T]here’s one specific capitalist he hopes to enlighten. Gore tells me of his ambition to have another meeting with Rupert Murdoch, to talk him through the issue, convert him to the cause. “There is still hope that he will awaken to the reality of this,” Gore says. “It would make a huge difference if he would.”

As the CEO of News Corp., Murdoch of course has big control over the company's more conservative-leaning media outlets, such as Fox News and the Wall Street Journal.
