Police arrested Christopher Wade Briggs on Tuesday afternoon after the Secret Service saw him allegedly take a semiautomatic .45-caliber handgun from a backpack and attach it to his belt.

“I was only going to fire a couple of shots if no one confronted me,” Briggs said according to court documents.

The gun was loaded with 13 rounds in the magazine and one in the chamber, according to NBC.

A search of his backpack turned up two more magazines containing 13 rounds, and 171 rounds of .45-caliber, hollow-point ammunition, the station reported. Officers also reportedly found two hunting knives with serrated edges, one with a seven-inch blade and one with a 12-inch blade.

Officers did not find any gun license or permit in Briggs' name.
