Absolute Complete Dips**ts': Famed Country Singer Blasts Westboro Protesters in Stream of Blistering -- and Comical -- Tweets

The Westboro Baptist Church (WBC), the virulent, anti-gay congregation based in Topeka, Kan., has adopted a strategy of late that doesn't seem to be working: Going after famous country singers. Following a fiery clash with crooner Vince Gill, the church is apparently now planning to picket an upcoming Blake Shelton concert.

But the star doesn't seem worried. In fact, he took to his Twitter account on Wednesday to let the WBC know exactly what he thinks of its tactics. Speaking directly to the church, he wrote, "This isn't about God. It's about me using this opportunity to make y'all look like the absolute complete dips**ts you are."

The strongly-worded message came after he learned that the group is planning an Oct. 3 picket at his Kansas City show. Rather than running scared, Shelton is battling the radical group head-on.

On Twitter, WBC recently made public its pledge to picket (they also came up with a clever line using his initials: "We know BS when we see it!") and took aim at the singer's past and present relationships. The group's promise came along with this graphic -- one that likely wasn't well-received or appreciated by Shelton:

Since WBC turned its sights on the star, the country singer has sent a slew of related tweets over the past 24 hours. From lambasting the group for "inbreeding" to comparing one of its pickets to movie character Napoleon Dynamite, backing down and ignoring the situation are certainly not Shelton's chosen tactics..

The singer is essentially begging the group to make good on its pledge to show up at the concert. And if you read their Twitter feed, WBC is responding with its typical rhetoric about God's damnation and Shelton's apparently evil nature.

"The truth is @BlakeShelton we're your BEST FRIENDS & you need us now," the group wrote earlier today, telling the singer's "The Voice" co-stars -- Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green and Adam Levine -- in a separate message that they should tell the singer to "stop justifying his sins."
