Beck Laments the 'Sorry State of the Western World' in Comparing Obama's 'Vision' to Those of Former Presidents

"I'm going to fix a website by the end of the month!"

Glenn Beck on radio Friday lamented "how small this country's vision has become" and "the sorry state of the Western world" at large.

"FDR said, 'We are going to defeat national socialism,'" Beck began. "Think of this. National socialism is sweeping the continent of Europe. We're going to defeat national socialism, otherwise known as Naziism ... Reagan - 'Tear down this wall! We are going to defeat communism.' JFK - 'In the next decade, we are going to put a man on the moon and return him home safely.'"

"This president?" Beck continued. "'I'm going to fix a website by the end of the month.'"

Beck suggested that perhaps we have made our "vision" just "a little too small."

"It's a website, dude!" he said in exasperation. "You can get a bunch of 15-year-olds together and they can make a website. What happened to, 'We're going to put a man on the moon and return him home safely?'"

Or what happened to the man who - despite all the warnings and urgings of his advisers - went across the world and demanded, "Gorbachev, tear down this wall!" And, Beck added, "they did!"

"Now we have a president who says, 'I'm going to fix this website by the end of the month,'" Beck remarked. "And they don't!"

"Woah, America," Beck said. "I don't recognize you."

The radio host proceeded to discuss Toronto Mayor Rob Ford's brash admission that he has smoked crack  -- and the most recent video that seems to show him threatening to kill someone -- saying if this man remains in office we may as well say goodbye to "the Western way of life."

When he heard that Ford's approval rating actually ticked up after the scandal broke, Beck was astonished.

"What one generation tolerates, the next embraces, and that shows us that our generation has been so lax ... that people are starting now to embrace that kind of behavior," he said. "...Good men and women need to gather together, buckle down for a storm, and stand as one in the face of that storm for eternal principles that you know are true like -- 'Hey, maybe we shouldn't smoke crack?' Or, 'Maybe we shouldn't lie to the American people?'"
