Glenn Beck Breaks Down How the Ukrainian Conflict Marks an Important Step in the Return of the 'Red Menace

'The cold war is here. It's on."

Is America handling the upheaval in Ukraine the same way it did the 2011 protests in Iran? That's what Glenn Beck and TheBlaze's chief Washington correspondent Sara Carter argued Thursday, saying the result of both is a steady expansion of the "red menace," Russia.

Beck has long said the "one movement" America should have stood for amid the upheaval surrounding the "Arab Spring" was Iran. While the president and various members of his administration have stood boldly for those on the streets of Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, and Syria, its comments on Iran were much more perfunctory.

In the end, the protests were squashed, and many of the activists were killed or imprisoned.

In Ukraine, Carter asserted, Putin is telling America we "better be quiet," and Beck said "we are."

"Putin has schooled our little baby-girl-bike president over and over," he added.

Carter, who has spoken with activists in Kiev, said many in Ukraine are crying out for Europe and the United States to stand by their side, if only with "moral support." They see Russia reaching back out for control of the former Soviet state.

"The Olympics are going to end, and this is when Putin can make his move," she said.

Beck went to a chalkboard that illustrates a prediction he made years ago, that the "Arab Spring" protests would cascade across the region, and the instability would sweep west into Europe.

If the conflict in Ukraine becomes militarized, Beck and Carter said, there will be refugees spilling across borders and Georgia will likely be "swallowed up" in the instability.

"We spent how much treasure as a country," Beck said, "and the 'red menace' is coming back this way again!"

Carter agreed: "There is a cold war underway that we are not being made aware of publicly, but behind the scenes our intelligence officials and our European officials are saying the cold war is here. It's on."
