How Fast Is Your State's Average Internet Speed? New Map Purports to Have the Answer

A new map released Monday by a communications provider purports to show the which states have the fastest — and slowest — Internet speeds in the country.

Using data from Akamai's "State of the Internet" report, Broadway Networks said the map's darker green spots represent faster speeds while states colored in red and orange had slower speeds.

"It’s no surprise that the Northeast has some of the fastest speeds in the nation, while the Midwest and less populated states have generally slower speeds," the company said in a release.

According to Broadway Networks, the state with the fastest speed was Virginia at 13.7 megabits per second. In contrast, the communications company said Alaska had the slowest speeds at 7.0 megabits per second.
