What the German Coach Did After the MLS All-Star Game Wednesday Had One Analyst Calling It 'Disgraceful
August 07, 2014
Sportsmanship?
Bayern Munich soccer coach Pep Guardiola is taking a lot of heat today after what he did following the Major League Soccer all-star game in Portland Wednesday night. Or rather, it's more about what he didn't do: He refused to shake the American coach's hand.
The game featured the MLS' best players going up against a European powerhouse. But Guardiola became incensed over the officiating and apparently didn't appreciate the aggressive play on the part of the MLS players, who won the game 2-1.
As time expired, Guardiola waved his finger at the MLS coach, Caleb Porter, and continued to ignore Porter's attempts to partake in the time-honored tradition. That prompted outrage from ESPN commentators and analysts, with Alexi Lalas dubbing the move "disgraceful."
Watch it unfold below:
According to the Associate Press, after the game Guardiola claimed he didn't see Porter. But the video seems to tell a very different story.
