Christian Leader's Dire Warning: 'The Entire Superstructure of Culture Can Come Crashing Down

"There's absolutely nothing that can occur in reality that can compete with airbrushed nudity and all that can occur in pornography."

Famed Christian psychologist, author and broadcaster Dr. James Dobson says that the United States will be in danger if the institution of marriage collapses.

"I don't think that America can survive in the form we have known, being perhaps the world's leader in many, many areas," he said in an interview with TheBlaze last week. "I don't think that will continue if we allow the family to disintegrate and that is in fact what's happening."

Dobson heralded the importance of marriage to the nation's social fabric as a whole, claiming that the family isn't simply a prized enterprise for Christians.

"[The family] goes all the way back. Every continent on earth, every place where mankind has taken hold, the family, the marriage unit has been evident," he said. "When you start to weaken that, when it becomes less significant, it influences the entire culture and, in fact, the entire superstructure of culture can come crashing down."

Dobson also spoke about the purported dangers that pornography poses to men, women and the institution of marriage. At the heart of the matter, he said, are unrealistic expectations created by pornography — elements that he said can harm couples' sexual relationships.

"There's absolutely nothing that can occur in reality that can compete with airbrushed nudity and all that can occur in pornography," Dobson said. "I think it limits or damages the sexual relationship between a man and a woman. It's like taking a drug ... you're going to need more."

Dobson also spoke about his new book "Your Legacy" and his new overarching ministry project "Building Your Legacy" in which he tackles how parents can instill character and values in their children.

"An inheritance is something that you give to people. It's usually monetary … and it's why you give to those who come behind," he said. "Legacy is what you build in someone … it's what you're trying to do primarily with your children."
