The beaten-up boat is named Braveheart.

It washed ashore in Asbury Park, New Jersey, on Christmas Eve. Officials said it was likely drifting at sea for long while.

And it's registered to an address in Rockaway Beach but hasn't been reported stolen, WPVI-TV in Philadelphia said.

What no one seems to have figured out is the meaning behind a phrase written on the hull: "I will miss you..."

The boat is in the custody of the city's public works department, WPVI reported.
TheBlaze on Thursday reached out to police to find out if individuals with knowledge of the boat's history have been contacted but officials weren't immediately available for comment. Asbury Park's Public Works office was closed Thursday.
