NFL Player and Elementary School Principal Grab Each Other's Laptops by Mistake at Airport Security. How They Get Them Back Is a Fun Tale.

"What would some stranger named Kyle Van Noy do with my laptop?"

LEHI, Utah (TheBlaze/AP) — Kyle Van Noy, a Detroit Lions linebacker and former Brigham Young University star, and Ilene Strong, principal at Traverse Mountain Elementary in Lehi, mistakenly picked up each other's laptops from security bins at Salt Lake City International Airport last week.

Provo's Daily Herald reports that Van Noy — the 40th pick overall in last year's NFL draft — was on his way to Miami when he opened the laptop.

"I thought my laptop with my whole life on it was sitting in Miami with a stranger," Strong told the Daily Herald. "Every scenario that I could think of was going through my mind. What would he find? What would he put on it?"

"I knew my email was open and all weekend I was thinking he was able to read it," she added to the paper. "It turned out he saw that my page was open and he just Googled me...He called the school and asked if its principal was currently traveling."

Strong's secretary got in touch with her about the mix-up, noting who it was who had her laptop. While Van Noy's name meant nothing to her, that wasn't the case with her husband.

“I just happened to say, 'What would some stranger named Kyle Van Noy do with my laptop?'" Strong told the Daily Herald. "Greg’s eyes got huge. It was a good thing I said his name. He just started laughing and told me he was a professional football player."

More from the Daily Herald:

Strong then was put in contact with the former BYU football player who now plays for the Detroit Lions by Reno Mahe, another former BYU football player who has children at Traverse Mountain Elementary.

Strong and Van Noy texted back and forth and came up with a place to trade the laptops back, but their agreed time Tuesday didn't work out because of poor weather conditions.

That's when Mahe said that he would get Van Noy to bring the laptop to the school. Thursday, Van Noy visited Traverse Mountain Elementary School to switch the laptops and while there, he visited 35 classrooms and took photos with 1,000 students.

“He started going from class to class," Strong told the paper. "He was here an hour and a half to two hours. He just took time in every class, giving high-fives, taking questions. He was just a sweetheart. The kids just loved it."
