92-Year-Old WWII Vet and His Son Were Waiting for the Check at Outback — Here’s What They Got Instead

"...people never cease to amaze me in bad & good ways."

For his 92nd birthday dinner on Feb. 21, a World War II veteran’s son took him to Outback Steakhouse. When it came time to pay, instead of a bill, the son found a hand-written note that brought “tears” to his eyes.

Bob Nieman, the veteran’s son, told Opposing Views that they discovered the entire $58.59 bill had been comped by the Sebring, Florida, restaurant. Also included was a note.

“Thank you for your service!!” the note read. It was signed, “Very grateful Americans.”

“I did 27 years on the Police Dept. and people never cease to amaze me in bad & good ways. My Dad is my hero & this was I think more of a happy moment for me than him, seeing someone appreciate him in this way actually brought a [sic] tears to my eyes,” Nieman said in a written message to Opposing Views.
