Obama Doesn't Hesitate When Asked If He Could Win a Third Term — and Levels a Few Insults at Donald Trump to Boot
October 11, 2015
"He's tapped into something that exists in the Republican Party that's real."
President Barack Obama did not hesitate after Steve Croft of '60 Minutes' asked him what would happen if Obama could go for a third term in the White House.
"Do you think if you ran again, could run again, and did run again, you would be elected?" Kroft wondered.
"Yes," Obama answered without skipping a beat.
"You do?" Kroft asked.
"I do," Obama replied.
Obama did offer a few choice descriptions of one person vying for the Oval Office in 2016 — Republican frontrunner Donald Trump.
The president called the real estate mogul a "great publicity seeker."
"He's tapped into something that exists in the Republican Party that's real," Obama said. "I think there is genuine anti-immigrant sentiment in the large portion of at least Republican primary voters. I don't think it's uniform. He knows how to get attention. He's the classic reality TV character."
Does he think Trump has a shot at victory?
"I don't think he'll end up being president of the United States," Obama replied.
