Twitter CEO Denies Allegations That the Platform Censors Users: ‘Absolutely Not’

He also addressed rumors of a change to Twitter's 140 character limit.

Twitter co-founder and CEO Jack Dorsey denied allegations that Twitter censors users — despite recent accusations to the contrary — during an interview on the TODAY show Friday.

"Absolutely not," Dorsey said of the allegations. "Twitter has always been about controls. People can follow who they want, and it's our job to make sure they see the most important things."

Breitbart’s Milo Yiannopoulos recently accused Twitter of “gearing up to purge conservatives” after the social media platform informed him that he lost his blue Verified checkmark for “recent violations of the Twitter rules.” Twitter did not specify the “violations.”

Dorsey said that he has personally never blocked anyone on Twitter.

"I really want to see what people are saying and I want to hear from them," he said.

Dorsey was also asked about Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s use of the platform.

"As a microphone, it's at its best," Dorsey said. "He uses it certainly to reach out to folks and to understand what they're talking about and also to have conversations, very simply."

Dorsey also said that Twitter will not eliminate its 140-character limit.

"It's staying," he said. "It's a good constraint for us, and it allows for of-the-moment brevity.”
