Mariah Carey's Sister Arrested on Prostitution Charges

Police said she solicited money in exchange for sex from an undercover police officer.

SAUGERTIES, N.Y. (TheBlaze/AP) — The sister of pop star Mariah Carey has been arrested on prostitution charges in upstate New York.

Police told the Daily Freeman of Kingston that 55-year-old Alison Carey was arrested in Saugerties on Friday following an investigation at a hotel. Police said she solicited money in exchange for sex from an undercover police officer.

Saugerties Police Chief Joseph Sinagra told the newspaper that she identified herself as the performer's sister when she was arrested and that an Internet search of the two women appeared to confirmed the claim.

A source told People that Mariah and Alison Carey have been estranged "for years." Police described Carey as a transient and said she advertised her services online.

More from the Daily Freeman:

One ad, posted at 6:18 p.m. on Friday, contains two photos of Carey and states: “Im a pretty lady looking for guys who are looking to have some fun and get into a world of pleasure that other woman just cant provide two you, woman with the ability to make the earth move for you and to get you to see stars, oh yea with me its,”ITS SUCH A SWEET,SWEET FANTASY BABY, WHEN I CLOSE MY EYES I COME AND TAKE YOU ON AND ON.” That phrasing mimics the lyrics from Mariah Carey’s 1995 hit “Fantasy.” [...]

Sinagra said that “based on other stories,” there could be cause for concern for people who had sexual encounters with Carey, particularly if it was unprotected, and urged those individuals to contact their doctors.

Carey is due in Saugerties Town Court on Aug. 30.

It wasn't immediately clear if she had an attorney who could comment on the charges.
