Speaker Paul Ryan, addressing the press from his home state of Wisconsin on Wednesday, said he has congratulated President-elect Donald Trump on what he described as the "the most incredible political feat I have seen in my lifetime."
Ryan said that "Donald Trump turned politics on its head" and "heard a voice out in this country that no one else heard." He added that Trump will lead a "unified Republican government" as Republicans not only took back the White House but also maintained control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate.
The Republican speaker also commented on Trump's conciliatory victory speech early Wednesday, saying that it "struck the right tone."
Ryan made his statement just moments before Hillary Clinton was slated to give her concession speech at a New York City hotel.
President Barack Obama is also scheduled to deliver remarks from the Cabinet room of the White House Wednesday afternoon.
