U.S. mosques receive pro-Trump hate mail

Multiple mosques across the U.S. have reported receiving threatening letters stating that President-elect Donald Trump will “do to you Muslims what Hitler did to the Jews.”

“There’s a new sheriff in town — President Donald Trump,” the letter addressed "to the children of Satan" stated. “He’s going to cleanse America and make it shine again. And, he’s going to start with you Muslims.”

“You Muslims would be wise to pack your bags and get out of Dodge,” it added.

The letters were signed by “Americans for a Better Way.”

The Washington Post reported that four mosques — one in Georgia and three in California — have said that they received the letter.

Faisal Yazadi, the president of the board of directors at the Evergreen Islamic Center in San Jose, California, one of the mosques that received the letter, told the San Francisco Chronicle that he hopes the letter’s sender will participate in a dialogue with the community.

“Our doors are never locked,” he said. “I hope that person knows that we’re more than happy to have a dialogue. Hopefully, we learn a thing or two from him or her, and he or she learns something from us.”

Yazadi added that he has received an "outpouring of support" from Police Chief Eddie Garcia, city officials, neighbors, a Catholic bishop and the NAACP.

“Without their support I don’t think I’d be talking to you so strongly now,” he said.

Yazadi told KRON-TV that he doesn’t attribute the contents of the letter to politics.

“I’m not to worried about the political climate,” Yazadi said. “Things like this happen, and we just have to learn to live with it.”

The San Francisco Chronicle reported that the San Jose Police Department is investigating the matter as a “hate-motivated incident.”
