Fox News host mocks Kellyanne Conway's claim that microwaves are being turned into cameras

Fox News anchor Shepard Smith ripped into White House counselor Kellyanne Conway on Monday, mocking her for comments she made in a recent interview about modern surveillance techniques.

Conway told the New Jersey newspaper, The Record, over the weekend that microwaves are "turned into cameras" by intelligence officers as a means to spy and survey people.

"We know that that is just a fact of modern life," Conway said, noting that the same is done to televisions and cellphones.

The latter two, TVs and phones, are undoubtedly used as surveillance mechanisms. A WikiLeaks document dump last week revealed that the CIA does use the microphones and cameras in certain TV and phone devices to spy on people.

However, there isn't any evidence to back up Conway's claim that microwaves are turned into cameras to spy nor did she provide any in the interview.

So when covering her comments on his show Monday, Smith made it clear that there is no evidence to back Conway's claim.

"Microwaves do not turn into cameras," Smith said in a slow, mocking tone.

"Fox News can now confirm: Microwaves heat food; cameras take pictures," he added. "Micro[waves] don't have cameras and micro[waves] cannot turn into cameras."

Smith also noted that he doesn't really "quote [Conway] much anymore" because her "previous words have been up to debate."

Conway said on Twitter Monday that her comments in the interview were taken out of context and merely used for flashy headline.
