Mom catches man trying to sodomize her 2-year-old girl at playground — then her instinct takes over

A mother was at a Kansas City playground Friday when she noticed a man "eyeballing" her children, WDAF-TV reported.

Then, while her 2-year-old daughter was on a swing, the mother said the man walked behind her daughter, snatched her off the swing, grabbed her by her hips and pulled her diaper down, WDAF reported.

Next, the mother said the man lifted his shirt, took down his pants and began thrusting against her little girl, WDAF noted — and the mom's instinct took over.

She ran at the man, who fell, and then she got on top of him and began punching him before he ran off, KCTV-TV reported, citing records.

"I wanted to hurt him," the girl's mother, Christa Moore, told KCTV. "I wanted to put him in pain."

Moore said she recognized the man from being at the park before but said he never bothered her family.

"I don't get how any man or any adult could want to hurt a child like that," Moore told KCTV.

After the man ran off, the mother had someone call police, WDAF said.

Family friend Devan Barnes told KCTV that he chased the man into a fenced-in parking lot and kept him there until police arrived.

"If cops didn't show up, I was going in," Barnes told KCTV.

The man was arrested and found in possession of marijuana and an unidentified white vial of fluid with a chemical odor, WDAF reported, adding that the mother identified the man from a police photo.

William L. Bates Jr., 24, of Kansas City, Mo., was charged with first-degree attempted sodomy and attempted statutory sodomy with a person less than 12 years old, WDAF said.

While behind bars Bates told police he got a cigarette from someone near the park but doesn't remember anything about the incident, WDAF reported.

Bates' bond is set at $150,000 cash only, WDAF said.
