CNN analyst to Trump: 'Shut up' and 'take your lumps like a man

CNN's political analyst Brian Karem said that President Trump needed to "shut up" and take his "lumps like a man," in response to the president's tweet maligning the press Wednesday.

Here's what he said:

"I was gonna say, take your lumps like a man," Karem said to CNN's Brianna Keilar. "I mean, for heaven's sake, every president faces this. Every president. Every president."

"For a president of the United States to sit there," he added, "on a day where he should be crowing about a victory, by the way, you know, that's what his main topic should be."

"Detainees coming home," Kielar said, referring to the hostages released by North Korea.

"The detainees coming home," he agreed. "So take your victory lap on that, shut up and take your medicine."

"Act like a man, for heaven's sakes," he continued. "Every president takes criticism. For you to sit there and then tell us, to question our veracity because we print things or say things that you don't like, I want you to imagine being a press room that is populated with people only vetted by the president."

"I'll defend every one in that press room right now, every one of them, we're only doing our job. And I don't care what network affiliate. They're all doing an honest's day labor," he concluded. "But if you turn it around and say look you can't get in here unless you write something nice about me, what does that do to free press?"

Here's the video of Karem's comments to Trump:

The journalists were responding to a tweet from Trump Wednesday morning where he suggested pulling the credentials of members of the news media that he thought were treating him unfairly.

"The Fake News is working overtime," he tweeted. "Just reported that, despite the tremendous success we are having with the economy & all things else, 91% of the Network News about me is negative (Fake)."

"Why do we work so hard in working with the media when it is corrupt?" he added. "Take away credentials?"

Karem added at the end of the segment that he was afraid of other journalists who might be physically harmed by Trump supporters because of the criticism of the president. He added that he believed Trump's criticism of the media proved that he was unfit for the office.
