PA man arrested on weapons of mass destruction charge for allegedly setting off 30 explosions

Police have arrested a man in connection with a series of mysterious explosions that have terrorized residents in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, for months, WPSG-TV reported.

An investigation by the FBI, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Pennsylvania State Police led to the arrest of David Surman Jr., 30, of Milford Township, on a possession of weapons of mass destruction charge, the station reported.

Surman allegedly set off bombs that caused 30 rattling explosions across upper Buck County since April 2, WPSG reported.

Inside his home, police found what is believed to be “a large bomb that was capable of mass destruction,” Bucks County District Attorney Matt Weintraub told the station.

Authorities also found other bombs, chemicals and “strange drawings and pictures, some with hate symbols.” One of the drawings shows Surman and his girlfriend driving away from a bombing scene, according to the report.

“You can see some of the musings that were found in the defendant’s house,” Weintraub said, according to WPSG.

The investigation led authorities to secure search warrants at Surman's business, the Consolidated Chemical and Solvent Company on Old Bethlehem Pike and at his home on Spinnerstown Road, the TV station reported.

Surman’s motive is unclear, Weintraub told the TV station. He also said he is concerned that more bombs could be planted in the area.

“I am a little concerned there may be unexploded bombs out there,” Weintraub said.

Neighbors are hoping, however, they won’t hear any more of the frightening explosions, WPSG reported.

There were no reports of people being injured by the explosions, the report states.

Surman refused to speak to anyone while arriving for his arraignment, according to the TV station. He also has not said anything about the disturbing items found in his home, according to the report.

He is being held on $750,000 bond.
