MI-Gov: Poll shows Democrat Gretchen Whitmer leading GOP candidate Bill Schuette

A new poll from Emerson College in Massachusetts shows Democratic candidate Gretchen Whitmer holding a slim lead over possible GOP gubernatorial candidate Bill Schuette, according to WZZM-TV.

What are the details of the poll's findings?

Whitmer, a former state senator and one-time Ingham County prosecuting attorney, leads Attorney General Schuette by 7 points, according to the poll.

The poll's margin of error is 4 percent, and the polling was conducted July 19-21.

WZZM reported that Whitmer is the Democratic favorite and Schuette is the Republican favorite.

What about the Democratic side?

According to the poll, Whitmer leads the other Democratic primary candidates with 39 percent. Businessman Shri Thanedar is at 17 percent, and former Detroit health director Abdul El-Sayed is at 12 percent.

The poll reports that about a third of Democratic primary voters are undecided.

What about the Republican side?

On the Republican side, Schuette is in the lead with 35 percent. Lt. Gov. Brian Calley is at 13 percent, Jim Hines, president of the Christian Medical and Dental Associations, is at 9 percent, and state Sen. Patrick Colbeck is at 7 percent.

The poll reports that about a third of Republican primary voters are undecided.
