An 85-year-old Ireland man fights off, chases away 3 armed robbers in incredible video

An 85-year-old man fought off — and chased away — three armed robbers at a bookmakers' shop in Ireland on Saturday.

The surveillance video, which caught the entire incident on camera, is nothing short of inspiring.

What are the details?

The incident occurred on Saturday night at the Bar One Racing office in Glanmire, Ireland.

Video surveillance caught three robbery suspects, armed with hammers and a shotgun entering the bookmakers' shop when the 85-year-old man jumped at the chance to stave off theft.

Tim Murphy, the shop's manager, is grateful for the man's help, according to RTE.

The man, identified as Denis O'Connor, leaped into action when the would-be robbers threatened him and Murphy, and proceeded with an attempt to raid the shop's safe.

The outlet reported that O'Connor fought off one of the robbers and managed to chase him outside. O'Connor's heroism is also captured on the shop's surveillance video. After O'Connor fought off the first suspect, he re-entered the shop to return for the second and third.

What the elderly man say?

Speaking with The Independent, O'Connor said he saw that help was needed, and he simply acted in response to what was happening.

"I didn't really think about it — I just went for it," O'Connor said. "When I saw them confronting [Murphy], I just acted. I just wanted to help him out."

According to the outlet, O'Connor didn't surprise the locals with his reaction.

"He wouldn't stand by while anyone was in trouble — he's an absolute gentleman. It was typical of him," one local resident said of O'Connor.
