Trump campaign has already hauled in more than $100M for his 2020 re-election bid

The presidential election is still more than two years away, but President Donald Trump has already hauled in more than $100 million in fundraising for his 2020 re-election bid, the Washington Post reported.

Since January 2017, Trump has raised more than $106 million overall, according to Federal Election Committee filings and reports from his campaign and two joint fundraising committees with the Republican National Committee.

The president's campaign's efforts alone pulled in $18.1 million during the third quarter. That amount, coupled with the funds from the two RNC committees, sent the campaign into October with $46.7 million cash on hand.

The latest fundraising figures are due to be filed with the FEC by Monday night.

Who are Trump's donors?

Small donors of $200 or less made up about 56 percent of his July to September haul, according to The Post.

Trump campaign senior adviser Lara Trump told the newspaper in a statement that the campaign hopes to see its grassroots supporters “and millions more like them to get out and vote in the midterms so President Trump can continue to build on his agenda with even greater success for the forgotten men and women of this great country.”

How much did the campaign spend?

During the third quarter, the Trump campaign spent $7.7 million, more than doubling its second-quarter expenditures of $3.6 million, the New York Times reported citing a preview of the campaign's filings.

What else?

There's been no other president since at least Ronald Reagan who has raised as much money as Trump has during the first two years of his presidency, according to the nonpartisan research group Campaign Finance Institute, The Post reported.

But Trump's wasn't the largest haul for the third quarter among all political candidates.

Texas Democrat Beto O'Rourke reportedly raised $38.1 million, busting the record amount raised by a Senate candidate in a single quarter.

Despite O'Rourke's grassroots fundraising efforts, his Republican challenger incumbent Ted Cruz is still leading the race by an average of 7 points according to the latest RealClearPolitics average of polls.
