AOC parody Twitter account no longer exists, but someone has plans to resurrect it

A parody Twitter account that mocked Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York no longer exists on the social media platform.

"This account doesn't exist," a message says of the @AOCpress Twitter account.

Earlier this week, the congresswoman had tweeted that there was an account impersonating her. "FYI there’s a fake account on here impersonating me and going viral. The Twitter CEO has engaged it, boosting visibility. It is releasing false policy statements and gaining spread. I am assessing with my team how to move forward. In the meantime, be careful of what you see," she tweeted. Ocasio-Cortez has served as a House lawmaker since 2019.

The person behind the popular Catturd Twitter account has claimed that he intends to resurrect the Ocasio-Cortez parody account.

"FYI ... If you listen to my podcast, you know I wrote many tweets for the @AOCpress parody account. However, I didn't own or run the account," he tweeted. "Tune in to our podcast at inthelitterbox.com and I'll explain what happened and my plans to bring the account back myself, like literally."

Twitter owner Elon Musk responded by expressing his hope that the account would be revived. "I hope it does come back. Was super funny," he tweeted.

While the account is no longer available Twitter, archived versions of it can be viewed on web.archive.org. One of the tweets that had been posted on the account read, "Printing money is the only way out of inflation."
