Breaking: CNN studios and offices evacuated over bomb threat

The phoned in threat claimed there were 5 bombs planted

CNN's programming was interrupted Thursday during Don Lemon's show and evacuated over a bomb threat made via a phone call.

Don Lemon tweeted about the evacuation from his social media account.

"We were evacuated in the middle of my live show," Lemon tweeted. "Bomb threat. We're running taped programming. NYPD is investigating."

Law enforcement said that someone had called and claimed there were 5 bombs inside the building. They evacuated the studios out of caution.

"There has been a bomb threat phoned into the CNN offices in NY," tweeted the official CNN public relations account.

"Employees have been evacuated and the NYPD is investigating," they added. "More info to follow as it becomes available."

At about 11:55 PM local time, the police informed CNN that the offices were cleared, and no bombs were found.

Brian Stelter also tweeted about the interruption.

"The NYPD is investigating a bomb threat near CNN NYC's office at Columbus Circle," he said. "Due to the threat, the office has been evacuated."

"Right now CNN is airing taped programming due to the disruption," he added.

The broadcast was interrupted and later Don Lemon called in from outside their offices to report on the situation. He said that the bomb squad had arrived to investigate the matter.

This was the third time that CNN had faced an evacuation over bomb threats.
