CMT pulls Jason Aldean's 'Try That in a Small Town' video as leftists lose their minds over its anti-crime, anti-woke message

CMT has pulled Jason Aldean's "Try That in a Small Town" video as leftists raged over its anti-crime, anti-woke message.

What are the details?

Billboard reported that the video was released Friday and was in CMT's rotation through Sunday, but the magazine said Country Music Television declined to comment on why it stopped playing the video Monday.

However, leftists are not declining to comment on the video, which shows familiar clips of individuals rioting, beating people up, looting, robbing, and spitting in cops' faces. The song's lyrics challenge such lawless folks to attempt that behavior in a small town, where residents aren't as likely to take it without pushback:

Sucker-punch somebody on a sidewalk, carjack an old lady at a red light, pull a gun on the owner of a liquor store, ya think it’s cool, well, act a fool if ya like. Cuss out a cop, spit in his face, stomp on the flag and light it up. Yeah, ya think you're tough? Well, try that in a small town, see how far you make it down the road. Around here, we take care of our own, you cross that line, it won't take long for you to find out — I recommend you don't."

How are leftists reacting?

Here's a sampling of how leftists are responding to "Try That in a Small Town."

Chris Willman — senior music writer and chief music critic at Variety — penned a hit piece Tuesday for the entertainment magazine titled "Jason Aldean Already Had the Most Contemptible Country Song of the Decade. The Video Is Worse."

Willman posted the following tweet the same day — and it appears already on its way toward being ratioed into oblivion:

Mississippi Free Press news editor Ashton Pittman blasted the location choice for the video:

Anti-gun enthusiast Shannon Watts tweeted that Aldean "who was onstage during the mass shooting at a Las Vegas concert in 2017 that killed 60 people and wounded over 400 more has recorded a song called 'Try That In A Small Town' about how he and his friends will shoot you if you try to take their guns."

Singer-songwriter Sheryl Crow also tweeted to Aldean: "I’m from a small town. Even people in small towns are sick of violence. There’s nothing small-town or American about promoting violence. You should know that better than anyone having survived a mass shooting. This is not American or small town-like. It’s just lame."

Okay, now get ready for some comic relief — because Roseanne Barr blasted back hilariously at Crow's take with a snarky vengeance:

Support for Aldean seems to outweigh criticism

Indeed, a cursory glance on Twitter appears to show that more than a few notable folks are behind Aldean and "Try That in a Small Town."

Aldean weighs in as well

With all the acrimony pointed at Aldean, seemingly lost in the shuffle is that he didn't write "Try That in a Small Town"; Billboard said it was penned by Kelly Lovelace, Neil Thrasher, Tully Kennedy, and Kurt Michael Allison.

Nevertheless Aldean on Tuesday took to social media to address the controversy:

Keep an eye out in the coming days for how "Try That in a Small Town" is doing on the charts — because leftists haven't seemed to learn ye olde adage that the more they rage about something, the more beloved and popular that thing tends to become.
