Colorado high school librarian arrested for alleged sexual assault of former student

Colorado Springs Police Department arrested 45-year-old Sarah Jones last week for the alleged sexual abuse of a high school student.

Jones was a library technology educator at Mitchell High School. KKTV reported that Jones was placed on administrative leave when allegations surfaced about inappropriate behavior toward a 16-year-old boy.

In response to the arrest of the school employee, Colorado's District 11 superintendent stated, "District and Mitchell administrators are working with the Colorado Springs Police Department during this investigation. Our highest priority is the safety and welfare of all students. These alleged charges are egregious and violate state statutes and D11 Board of Education policies, and we will continue to work in collaboration with investigators to protect our students."

Colorado authorities were alerted by an out-of-state law enforcement agency about Jones' suspected inappropriate conduct, reported Oxygen.com. The affidavit obtained by the outlet alleged that authorities discovered photos on the student's phone that "implied nudity from his teacher that he was having sexual relations with."

The evidence was handed over to local authorities to investigate. Police found that 4,777 messages had been exchanged between the student and the librarian. According to authorities, one of the messages sent by Jones read, "I'm not strong enough to control my love."

Law enforcement conducted a forensic interview with the teenager. The boy said he met the librarian while attending Mitchell High School. He stated that the two "began to talk" in fall 2021.

The teenager told authorities that he confided in Jones that he was homeless, and she responded by offering him a place to stay. In December 2021, the student moved into the librarian's home that she shared with her husband and two children.

Months after moving in, the student accused Jones of drinking with him and kissing his neck. The affidavit stated, "They then went to his room… and Sarah then continued to kiss him." Jones admitted to kissing the teen when she was intoxicated.

The boy alleged that sometime later, the two had "sex for the first time in Sarah's bedroom." The affidavit reported that Jones' children were home at the time, but her husband was in the hospital.

According to the teenager, Jones attempted to convince the boy to have intercourse with her as many as 20 times. He alleged that the two had sex approximately five times. Jones denied having sexual relations with the teen.

A warrant was issued for Jones' arrest on Wednesday. According to the Colorado Springs Police Department, Jones voluntarily turned herself in. She was booked into El Paso County Criminal Justice Center and charged with sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust.
